Savory Cabbage Beef Bake

A hearty and comforting casserole made with ground beef, cabbage, and tomato sauce, perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 head of cabbage, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: cheese (mozzarella or cheddar)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion, seasoning with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Drain the excess grease from the beef.
  4. Steam the chopped cabbage in a pot with a little water until wilted.
  5. In a casserole dish, layer tomato sauce, cabbage, and beef, repeating the layers as needed.
  6. If desired, sprinkle cheese in between layers.
  7. Top with remaining tomato sauce.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes, until bubbling.
  9. Allow to sit for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, add red pepper flakes when browning the meat. This dish freezes well and can be made ahead of time.
