Ingredients

- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 head of cabbage, chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: cheese (mozzarella or cheddar)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion, seasoning with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Drain the excess grease from the beef.
- Steam the chopped cabbage in a pot with a little water until wilted.
- In a casserole dish, layer tomato sauce, cabbage, and beef, repeating the layers as needed.
- If desired, sprinkle cheese in between layers.
- Top with remaining tomato sauce.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, until bubbling.
- Allow to sit for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, add red pepper flakes when browning the meat. This dish freezes well and can be made ahead of time.
