A comforting and hearty Salisbury steak recipe with savory brown gravy, caramelized onions, and mushrooms.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix well and shape into oblong patties.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the patties until browned on both sides. Remove from skillet.
  3. Add onions and mushrooms to the skillet and cook until golden brown.
  4. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, followed by a splash of cream if using. Stir to combine.
  5. Return patties to the skillet, cover, and simmer until cooked through, about 10-15 minutes.

Notes

For the best flavor, let the patties chill in the fridge for 20 minutes before cooking. Serve with mashed potatoes or egg noodles for a complete meal.
