- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
- 1 cup barbecue sauce (your favorite)
- 1 small onion, chopped (optional)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (optional)
- Optional: brown sugar, smoked paprika, hot sauce, or honey for extra flavor
Instructions
- Place the chicken breasts in the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Pour the barbecue sauce over the chicken until it is completely covered.
- Sprinkle the chopped onions and seasonings over the top.
- Cover and set the slow cooker to low for 6 hours or high for 3 hours.
- Once cooked, shred the chicken with two forks directly in the pot.
- Stir the shredded chicken in the sauce and serve as desired.
Notes
For added flavor, consider using chicken thighs for juicier results. Adjust cooking time if using frozen chicken.
