Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup baking soda (for bath)
  • Coarse salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit until foamy, about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in salt and oil, then gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Cover the dough with a towel and let it rise in a warm place for 40 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  6. Bring a large pot of water with baking soda to a boil.
  7. Divide the dough into small pieces and shape into bites.
  8. Dunk each piece in the boiling water for 30 seconds, then place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Sprinkle with coarse salt.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
