- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup baking soda (for bath)
- Coarse salt (for topping)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit until foamy, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in salt and oil, then gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Cover the dough with a towel and let it rise in a warm place for 40 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Bring a large pot of water with baking soda to a boil.
- Divide the dough into small pieces and shape into bites.
- Dunk each piece in the boiling water for 30 seconds, then place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
