- 2 cups chickpeas (canned or dried)
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 green chili, chopped (optional)
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- Salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Water as needed
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and add chopped onions. Cook until golden brown.
- Add ginger, garlic, and green chili; sauté until fragrant.
- Stir in cumin, coriander, turmeric, and garam masala.
- Add the crushed tomatoes and let simmer until it becomes thick.
- Stir in the chickpeas (drained if using canned) and add water as needed for desired consistency.
- Salt to taste and let simmer for 10-15 minutes.
- Finish with lemon juice and serve hot.
Notes
For added depth, toast the spices before adding them to the oil. Serve with basmati rice or naan.
