Old Fashioned Goulash

A hearty, beefy, and comforting goulash recipe that reminds you of home-cooked meals, made easy in one pot.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 23 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 28 oz canned tomatoes
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Optional: cooked corn or cheese
  • Optional: splash of Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a heavy pot and drain the grease.
  2. Add the chopped onions and bell pepper, cooking until softened.
  3. Stir in garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
  4. Add canned tomatoes, paprika, salt, pepper, and bay leaf.
  5. If desired, pour in a splash of water or broth for extra sauce.
  6. Stir in uncooked elbow macaroni.
  7. Simmer until noodles are tender, stirring occasionally.

Notes

For a tastier finish, let the goulash sit overnight before serving. Adding sharp cheddar right before serving makes it even more indulgent.
